So how do we keep our precious cargo safe when on the go?
Britax is generally considered the “safety leader,” but standards are governed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. So all the car seats out there are “safe.” What differentiates all of these are the added bells & whistles, which obviously impact the price.
We went with the Britax Roundabout 55. It’s Britax’s most simple and least expensive model, and it was all we needed at the time. We lived in New York City and didn’t have a car, so we really only needed the car seat for occasional trips out of the city. It has a small footprint, so it fit nicely in our little Prius. We’re generally happy with it, but we’re looking to buy a new car and thinking about upgrading our car seat at the same time. I’m partial to the Britax brand (we have the B-Ready stroller system & B-Safe infant seat), but the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP5-70 looks awfully nice (minus the sticker shock). I love that the seat is made of a leatherette fabric that’s easy to clean. I can’t be the only mother out there constantly trying to brush out Cheerios & Mum-Mum crumbs from the car seat! Why haven’t all the other manufacturers caught onto this?
What do you think, Mama? What’s your favorite convertible car seat out there that you would recommend?
